Important Information about the »BAB Alexa« App

Notice regarding upcoming changes to the Alexa integration in the APPMODULE

 

Dear customers,

Since 2018, Alexa voice control has been a free component of our APP MODULE – reliable, pre-installed, and without any follow-up costs.
Now, a decision by Amazon forces us to discontinue this feature in its current form.

 

What happened?

In March 2025, Amazon announced that older Alexa Skills based on the so-called Smart Home API v2 (like our current Skill) would not be compatible with the new Alexa+ device generation. For us – and for you – this initially posed no issue, as the integration continued to work flawlessly on classic Alexa devices, as it has for years.

But in July 2025, Amazon made a far-reaching decision:

“To avoid poor customer experiences as more people adopt Alexa+, we will hide your v2 Skill(s) from the Alexa Skill catalog on July 7, 2025 […] and later this year, we will remove your v2 skill from the Alexa Skills catalog, disabling the Skill for all customers, including those who previously enabled it.“

This means: This decision was not made by us. We did not deactivate the Alexa integration – Amazon is actively discontinuing it for compatibility reasons with their new product line.

 

What does this mean in practice?

  • Amazon will deactivate our current Alexa Skill – for all users.
  • Even those who are currently using the Skill will no longer be able to use it in the future.
  • Background: Amazon wants to prevent Alexa+ users from encountering incompatible Skills.
  • These changes affect the APPMODULE only, not the EIBPORT.

 

What’s next?

  • We are currently developing a new, modern solution based on the Smart Home API v3, which will also be compatible with Alexa+.
  • This new version is expected to be released in late summer 2025.

 

Until then:

  • The existing Skill still works on classic Alexa devices, but will soon be shut down.
  • As soon as the new app is available, we will inform you immediately.
